Missouri Lakes Filing #1
Mitigation Plan We look forward to working with you to increase the safety, beauty, and forest heath in your community!!
Timberline Fire, Gilpin County, and United Power have partnered again in 2022 to perform fire mitigation work with the first project will taking place in Missouri Lakes Filing 1. There are several reasons for this location:
• THIS NEIGHBORHOOD IS IDENTIFIED AS A HIGH PRIORITY IN THE GILPIN COUNTY CWPP
• THIS NEIGHBORHOOD HAS ONLY ONE ROAD IN AND OUT, NECESSITATING IMMEDIATE ACTION
• ALL THE ROADS IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD HAVE FIFTY-FOOT-WIDE DEEDED COUNTY RIGHT-OF-WAY. The two main goals for this project re the removal of dead, unhealthy, hazardous trees (those that are too close to power lines or may block ingress or egress) along roadsides, and overall fuel reduction. The roads in Missouri 1 average 18-20 feet wide from ditch to ditch, allowing for work to be performed within 15 feet on both sides of all roads. Roadside mitigation serves several purposes including:
• INCREASING YOUR SAFETY WHEN EVACUATING FROM A FIRE
• ENABLING RESPONDERS (FIRE AND POLICE) ACCESS FOR FIREFIGHTING AND EVACUATION
• CREATING WIDER TREE CROWN SPACING CAN ALLOW FIRE MANAGERS TO USE TREATED ROADS AS FIRE BREAKS
• REMOVING HAZARD TREES THAT CAN BLOW DOWN IN WINDSTORMS AND CONTACT POWER LINES. THESE TREES CAN START FIRES AND BLOCK ACCESS IN AND OUT OF THIS NEIGHBORHOOD
• INCREASING VISIBILITY WHEN TRAVELING IN ALL WEATHER AND EMERGENCY CONDITIONS
• ROADSIDE TREE REMOVAL IMPROVES ROAD QUALITY YEAR AROUND BY MELTING SNOW FROM SOLAR HEATING. THIS CAN DECREASE CAR ACCIDENTS, FALLS, AND RESPONSE TIMES FOR POLICE, FIRE AND EMS
In many places trees are growing immediately adjacent to the road and tree crowns are only 10 feet apart. The end goal of the roadside tree removal is to increase crown spacing as much as possible while working within the county right-of-way.
While this work is being done, homeowners will be able to move slash from their property to the roadside where it will be removed.

Very interesting. With the season of high winds often times the trees will fall and become snaggs that present a hazard to the home owner.
